This is a huge one for me. I’ve done it my entire life without even realizing it. For those of you who don’t’ know me, I have “only” been on this awakened path for about 17 months. What shined the light on this path for me was that I was deep into my addiction and had a very powerful spiritual awakening. It was only about a month prior to this awakening that I learned what an empath was. Learning this shed light on so many of the struggles I had faced my entire life.
But being aware of something and truly understanding it, are two very different things. I had an experience this morning where someone was visibly upset about something that I had indirectly brought into their awareness. This wasn’t something I did intentionally. It was work related, and I was just relaying information. I had no idea they would take it the way they did. But of course, I felt really bad for them. I noticed my thoughts spiraling around it. I noticed the hurt in my heart. My brain was spinning around, trying to find ways to resolve it for them; to ease the pain in their heart. I’ve done this my entire life.
I am learning though, that it is NOT MY responsibility to do this. Every person is on their own journey, and it is not up to me to fix anything for anyone else. Of course, if someone comes to me for advice, I am more than happy to offer an ear and advice, but this was not the case here.
This was actually the very first time I have ever caught myself in the act of taking on another’s energy in that way. I have been aware that I do it, just never caught myself while it was happening.
So I visualized a cord between us and I cut it. WHAT A RELIEF!!!!!

thank you for sharing your story. it is beautiful to see you grow, the caterpillar turning into the beautiful butterfly you are destined to be. I do that often too. I do take other people's energies and confuse them for mine. then everything spirals down from there. I love how you stand up for yourself, accept that it is not yours, you choose you, and cut the cord. I'll apply that too in my life.
